Tallgrass is an alternative K-12 school based on the Sudbury model of education. Sudbury does away with a compulsory curriculum and gives students the space to explore their own interests at their own pace. They also make decisions about the school democratically, learning responsibility and how to balance their needs with those of the community. Sudbury students grow up to be happy adults and are able to be successful in postsecondary education and in the careers that they choose, as well as developing strong social and emotional skills.
Our students learn real-world skills by practicing real life. By using the strength of their natural curiosity and intrinsic motivation, they learn more deeply and more effectively than students in conventional schools, without things that destroy motivation like standardized tests, punishment, and grades.
