Little Black Pearl Art & Design Academy is the result of 20 years of art and business programming by the parent organization - Little Black Pearl Workshop. Following two years of affiliation with Youth Connections Charter Schools, LBPA was established as a contract school with Chicago Public School Board in 2013. Little Black Pearl Art & Design Academy provides an academic, visual, performing, technological and industrial arts curriculum for 200 students in grades 9-12 from throughout the city of Chicago.
By infusing art, technology, music, and industrial workshop programming, LBPA has been able to demonstrate that students labeled "at-risk" are capable of personal successes in rigorous academics and social development settings. LBPA incorporates small classroom settings, individual academic attention, strong Counselor support, and a series of project based learning scenarios to bridge the broader purpose of education with the practical implementation of acquired skills. This approach has resulted in three graduating classes of seniors who have continued pursuits in higher education.
