The anxiety over reopening the city during the pandemic has been stressful for all. Schools have been challenged to plan for a safe continuation of education. The safest plan is to continue remote learning. Remote learning, though, has many educational, social, and emotional drawbacks. The IDPH has provided guidelines for the resumption of in-person instruction. Chicago Grammar School is following the most conservative guidelines for the lowest risk of spreading the infection. We have noticed in the review of other private school plans that not all will be abiding by the 6 feet distancing in the classrooms. CGS is not taking that risk.
Therefore, Chicago Grammar School begins in-person classes September 2, 2020. We were able to welcome students to the Summer Program 2020 following the new guidelines. We have experienced first-hand the ability to provide classes in a safe environment. The children easily adapted to masks, social distancing, and the hand washing protocols.
We are limiting class size to 10-12 students, thereby allowing the 6 feet social distancing necessary to accommodate all our students on a full-time basis rather than resorting to “blended learning” or classroom arrangements where students are situated with less than 6 feet proximity as some schools are planning.
Here is the plan: chicagogrammar.org/reopening-fall-2020-faqs. Please contact the school with any questions and share this information with friends and colleagues since we are accepting applications for all grades.
