NPN Moms in Business - Get to Know Jill

Written by: Katherine McHenry

NPN's Moms in Business brings aspiring and established mom entrepreneurs/business-owners together for networking, fun, and great resources. This month's get together at Chicago's Classic Kids Photography is a joint event with Alison Ray's Sassy Moms in the City. We are celebrating summer with a Style and Snapshots Soiree (Now sold out!)

One of our speakers: Jill Salzman, founder of The Founding Moms, launched the world’s first and only kid-friendly collective of monthly meet-ups for mom entrepreneurs.  She will share her savvy and must-have business tips.

Get to Know Jill:

Tell us about you and your family: I'm married to a smashing man and partner-in-crime, and together we founded two girls who are now 1 and 4.

What business are you in?   I run The Founding Moms, a collective of monthly meetups for mom entrepreneurs that currently meets up in 28 cities around the globe, including Australia and Canada.

How do you stay sane and keep everyday life in good working order?

No such thing!  There are definitely days when I am insane, but generally it's a lot of organizing schedules, using a Blackberry, and laughing.  A lot.

What 3 tips do you have for Moms in Business?

  • Meet up.  There's no better way to say your idea out loud, ask questions of others, or just network for the sake of making new friends.  Face-to-face time beats online *anything*, hands down.
  • Just do it.  Stop sitting around waiting for the "right time" to move forward--with anything that's stalling you.  Make your move now because, let's face it, what's the worst that could happen?
  • Get on Twitter.  I can't recommend it highly enough, and it really does help you grow your business.  Really!

What mom-moment sticks with you when you feel overwhelmed?  The time that I overheard my daughter playing with her friend and, getting into a toy car, she asked her friend, "Wanna go to the U.P.S. Store with me?"  It always erases my mom guilt immediately.
