School & Daycare Search Survival
Written by: Ellie Ander
If your toddler is anything like mine, 'transition' is a super scary word. As many parents gear up for the first-time transition into daycare or preschool, we hope that the tips below can help ease both of you into this new routine:
- Plan a teacher/classroom visit with your child before the start of school
- Find or create your own Social Story to ease transitions
- Read fun, age-appropriate books together. Try Llama Llama Misses Mama, or I Love You All Day Long
- Stay organized! Pack lunches and backpacks the night before to avoid unnecessary stress and rushing in the morning
- Ask the school about their recommended separation techniques
- Arrive on-time or a few minutes early to help your child to transition into the school day
- Ease your own separation anxiety on day/week one; hang out in a parent lounge to keep an ear on how it's going
