How to Select the Right Hair Products for Your Child

Written by: Sarah Boban

Here at Rock Candy Salon + Spa we wanted to share some of our recommendations for choosing the right hair products for your little ones.

Dry or Course Hair

Rock Candy recommends using a gentle shampoo formulated for dry hair that is alcohol free and don't wash hair every day. Try Original Sprout Natural Shampoo for moisture. Children with dry hair should use conditioner every time they shampoo.

Also try Original Sprout Leave-In Conditioner after every shampoo and Original Sprout Deep Conditioner once or twice a week for even more moisture.

As an added bit of moisture try a dime size of the Original Sprout Tahitian Oil applied to wet hair or dry hair for added moisture and shine.

Tangles

Dealing with tangles in your child's hair can be tearful and frustrating. Start with a really good detangler spray, try either Glop & Glam mild everyday Creamsicle Mist Detangler or for the best results use Original Sprout Detangler Spray that acts both as a detangler and a leave-in conditioner.  Also, try the “magic do-it-yourself Knot Genie brush”.

Eliminating Frizz and Defining Curls

Our favorite product for eliminating frizz and defining curl is Hot Tot Sweet Pea Serum.  This amazing product can be applied and worked through damp hair and either left to air dry or blow dry.  Your child will have perfect curls!

Swimmers Chlorine Build Up

Glop & Glam has just come out with a great clarifying shampoo called Blueberry Blast.  It has a great lather and leaves the hair extremely clean.  You can also apply a little bit of the Malibu Swim Conditioner to the hair before swimming so the hair does not absorb as much chlorine.

Cradle Cap

Cradle cap is a common scalp condition we see with children.  To treat cradle cap, first, scrub hair with the Original Sprout Hair and Body Wash and exfoliate the scalp with a fine tooth comb.  Then massage Original Sprout Leave-In Conditioner to the scalp and hair and you will notice a difference in just a couple of weeks.  Cradle Cap will not go away on its own.  It is a build-up of excess oils from the scalp and product build-up.

Head Lice

Rock Candy recommends using the Lice Detectives comb out kit once head lice is found.  It is non-toxic and has a yeast agent in it that makes combing easier.  Lice Detectives also makes preventative shampoo, conditioner, and spray repellent.
