We have on the go Chicago’s top picks for this weekend - August 18 & 19 - events that are just perfect for your family's city adventures!

From jets soaring over head to riding Thomas, family fun abounds all over Chicagoland!  Grab the kids, and go have some kid-sized fun!

#1. Chicago Air and Water Show

  • North Ave. Beach
  • Saturday & Sunday 10am-3pm
  • FREE
  • all ages

The Chicago Air and Water Show is the the largest FREE show of its kind in the United States. The show can be viewed along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach as the focal point.

#2. Northside Summerfest

  • 4050 N. Lincoln Ave.
  • Saturday & Sunday
  • $5 suggested donation
  • All Ages

Eat your way through one of the last festivals of the summer.  Enjoy a full lineup of the areaŹ¼s best bands, a wide selection of arts and crafts and HOT DOGS from all corners of the city.

#3. Day Out With Thomas

  • Illinois Railway Museum
  • Saturday & Sunday
  • $19
  • All ages

Day Out With Thomas tickets include one train ride with Thomas the Tank Engine™ for the trip specified on the Day Out With Thomas ticket, unlimited rides on all other trains and streetcars; all entertainment (puppet shows, live music, magic shows, etc.); and access to all Museum exhibits on the date specified on the ticket.  Advance reservations recommended.

#4. Edison Park Fest

  • 6730 N. Olmstead Ave.
  • Saturday & Sunday 
  • Free (rides are an additional charge)
  • All ages

Enjoy a full days worth of fun with carnival rides, live entertainment (magic, puppets, music), dog show, inflatables and much more.

#5. Garden Fairy Houses

  • Millennium Park: Lurie Garden
  • Saturday, 2-4pm
  • FREE (must pre-register)
  • Best for kids6+

Add magic and sparkle to your garden with Linda Haas, artist and owner of Fairy House Designs and Workshops. Create a magical environment using dried organic plant material from the Lurie Garden to lure fairies to your garden! Each child will decorate a fairy house to take home.
