on the Go Chicago's Kid-Sized Happenings for August 11 & 12

We have on the go Chicago’s top picks for this weekend - August 11 & 12 - events that are just perfect for your family's city adventures!

From street festivals to kite festivals, family fun abounds all over Chicagoland!  Grab the kids, and go have some kid-sized fun!

#1 Retro on Roscoe

  • Roscoe St.
  • Saturday & Sunday (kids area is open 12-6pm)
  • $5 suggested donation
  • all ages

Street festivals aren't just for drinking beer and listening to cover bands.  Retro on Roscoe has an amazing kids area with carnival rides and inflatables to face painters and live entertainment (Mary Macaroni, Radio Disney and more). Come visit on the go in the kids area between 12-6pm both Saturday and Sunday. Just look for the big orange tent.  We'll be there hosting our Diaper Changing/Family Aid Station.  Plus, we'll be handing out balloons!

#2. Circus Zirkus

  • Chicago Children's Museum
  • Saturday & Sunday
  • Free with admission
  • All Ages

If you haven't already, visit the Chicago Children's Museum's Circus Zirkus exhibit.  You can swing from a trapeze, learn to juggle and walk a tightrope.  The awesome exhibit closes this Sunday.

#3. Kite Festival

  • Chicago Botanic Garden
  • Saturday & Sunday, 10am-4pm
  • Free with admission
  • All ages

Enjoy soaring stunt kite performances set to music by members of the Chicago Fire Kite Team and members of the Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois. Ice cream, beverages, and many lunch options will be available for purchase on the West Meadow too.

#4. Second Saturdays for Families

  • Chicago History Museum
  • Saturday, 12pm & 2pm
  • Free with museum admission
  • All ages

Discover Chicago with the Radio Disney Road Crew on the second Saturday of each month. Explore the Great Chicago Fire, the city’s landmarks, and Blues music through fun, creative activities that engage the whole family. Performances start at 12pm & 2pm and are forty minutes in length.

#5. Alice in Wonderland

  • Apollo Theatre
  • Saturday, 11am
  • $13-$27
  • Best for kids 5-10 years

Join Alice for a tea party with the Mad Hatter, a croquet match with the Red Queen, and a wild journey with the Cheshire Cat. Emerald City adapts Lewis Carroll’s classic story to the stage for the whole family to enjoy.
