Being a Parent = Being a Master at Multitasking

Written by: Cindy McCarthy

Like most parents I know, I try to jam as many things into a day (and, lets face it, night) as humanly possible.  There never seems to be enough time in a day to get all of my work and chores done, while still making time for fun!

That is why I LOVE it when I can get something I need done, while still having fun with the kiddos.  Play time for the kiddos…check.  Weekly trip to the grocery store…check. Hooray, everyone is happy.

Here are some ideas on how you can infuse some kid-sized fun into your parent-sized chores:

  • Running low on milk? Head on over to Whole Foods in Lincoln Park to get your weekly grocery shopping done and enjoy a FREE Bubbles Academy sing-along every Wednesday and Thursday at 10am.
  • Are your grey hairs showing and nails chipped?  Urban Mom Salon to the rescue. They offer haircuts, color, waxing, manicures and pedicures. While you are getting beautified, your kids will be playing in the attached indoor play space and supervised by professional nannies.
  • Need to catch up on email or address and stamp those holiday cards? Little Beans Café offers supervised play in their fabulous indoor play space Monday through Friday from 2-5pm.  Get some tasks knocked off your list in their café, while the kids play!
  • Is your holiday shopping list running over to a second page?  Head over to the mall for story time, indoor playgrounds and power shopping.  Both Northbrook Court and Woodfield Mall have nice indoor playgrounds.  Plus, The Land of Nod in Northbrook Court has story time every Thursday at 11am. If the weather is nice, head over to Old Orchard. They have an outdoor play space and story time at Pottery Barn Kids every Tuesday at 11am.

If you would like to try out Urban Mom Salon for yourself, leave a comment below of your favorite multi-tasking tip by end of day Monday, December 5th.  One lucky NPN member will be chosen to receive free childcare and your choice of a free manicure, pedicure or blowout. Prize must be redeemed prior to December 31, 2011.
