Get to Know the NPN Westtown Neighborhood Group
Written by: Amy Johnson
The NPN Neighborhood groups are a great way to make new friends, find playdates for your little ones and discover new resources.
Marcie Wolbeck leads the Westtown Neighborhood Group and plans fun get-togethers every month! Join her at one (or all) of the upcoming events, including the Pump it Playdate on Nov 29, Kid City on Dec 5 and the Kookaburra event on Dec 14.
We asked Marcie a few questions to help you get to know her and the group. You can always reach out to her directly with any questions or event ideas at firstname.lastname@example.org. Look forward to seeing you soon!
Get to Know Marcie:
Tell us about you and your family. I am originally from Milwaukee and have lived in Chicago for the past 6 years. I love the Midwest, especially Chicago! I never imagined raising a family in the city but have greatly enjoyed all that Chicago has to offer for families. I played volleyball at Notre Dame and have worked in college athletics as a Division I volleyball coach. My son, Liam, is 18 months old. I love helping new families welcome a new baby into their lives and have turned that passion into my own business as a baby planner, The Polished Parent.
Why did you start to volunteer with NPN? I started volunteering with NPN in July 2011. After hearing about NPN through some friends, I finally decided to see what these events were all about. My son and I had a great time at our first event at Bubbles Academy and that is where I learned that the Westtown Club needed a new Chair. Even though I had only attended one NPN event, I was happy to become more involved. In addition to the West Town events, I also hosted a New Moms Group in September and loved being around little babies and new moms! Volunteering with NPN has been an extremely rewarding experience. I truly enjoy meeting other families while also trying new places around the city.
What do you think is the best part about living in Westtown? We haven't found anything we don't like about West Town! Since we moved here 3.5 years ago we have enjoyed the fabulous restaurants on Division Street, the shopping in Bucktown and our wonderful neighbors. West Town is a very lively and friendly neighborhood with many young families. It’s a great place to live with or without kids.
Why should someone check out the Westtown group? We have great turn outs at all of our events, with a mix of new and familiar faces! The West Town Club is very large as it also includes Logan Square, Bucktown, Ukranian Village, East Village, Humboldt Park, etc. Attending events is a great way to escape the daily doldrums, explore new places in the city and meet new people! I’ve had a blast mingling with other moms, whether it is over a glass of wine at Dream Dinners or chasing the kids around at Pump It Up. We have a lot of other great events planned for the winter - a parent mingle at Moonshine, Mani/Pedis at Tres Bien Nails and so many more!
What was your favorite event so far this year? It is so difficult to just pick one event! I really had a great time at Pump It Up. My son loved every activity and it was great to meet so many other families during the pizza party afterwards. It also didn't hurt that my son was so tired he slept in until 9am the next day! The Bright Horizons Read for the Record Event was also a favorite with great storytelling and crafts. Dream Dinners is always a great mid-week getaway and the yoga at Bend was effective and also relaxing! Too many good ones to choose!
Thank you, Marcie! We appreciate all the great events you plan for NPN parents! If you are interested in volunteering to plan events in your neighborhood, contact Amy at email@example.com.Posted on November 28, 2011 at 9:08 PM
