Playdate of the Month: November Gratitude Gathering

Written by: Anne Book

As a parent, there is so much more to be thankful for than I ever realized before I became one almost five years ago. Itʼs all about the simple things from being well, to making new friends, and the cutest things our children say and do every day.

This month, I was inspired by my girlfriends who I share so many great, { and no so great}, daily moments with just being moms. The women whoʼs smiles, coffee breaks, advice, thoughtfulness, and play dates all help all make “our worlds” go round. Parenting would not be the same without our friends. Why not organize a Gratitude Gathering with your Playgroup Past or Present!

When my son was first born, I was new to Chicago. I was fortunate to meet a great group of expecting and new moms. We met every Thursday for more than a year. Even though some friends have moved out of the city or have new schedules, why not organize a Play Group Reunion?

Whether you have a playgroup now, or friends you donʼt see very often, or a daily banter at drop off or the gym where you “keep meaning to get together”. You can easily pull off a little “thanks for you” party!

Playtime treats - serve something seasonal and special like these simple, delicious Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars from Rachel Ray. A feel good special treat!

For the “bigger” tots, how about a Craft and Snack Surprise: make Owl Smores with Graham. Crackers, Marshmallows, Candy Chocolate Circles, Chocolate Chips, and Candy Corn. Ask each parent to bring one item but donʼt tell them what it is for. This adds to the fun. Assemble, and make with kids for a snack.

Any way you spin it with snacks, crafts, friends or a playgroup the idea of getting our friends that we love, value and rely on together to say thank you is such a special way to start the season right.  Happy Gathering!
