Find parent support, advice & community with NPN
Written by: Laura Baginski
Being a parent is hard. And, let's face it, being a parent in Chicago is even harder.
Not only is it tougher to find a supportive parenting community in an enormous city (good luck breaking into the mommy cliques on the playground!), but Chicago parents also have to contend with the, er, challenging school system in addition to other big-city issues like crime, a high cost of living and insane traffic. Luckily, Chicago is also home to gorgeous parks, fantastic schools, beautiful libraries, tons of family-friendly events and, of course, Neighborhood Parents Network.
NPN was created in 1980 to help make the city smaller and more manageable and supportive for Chicago parents. A 501(c)3 non-profit, NPN helps parents:
- Find a trusted nanny recommended by other NPN parents in our Childcare Classifieds
- Choose the right school for their child—whether it's public, private or parochial—through our CPS 101 workshops, massive school fairs and our online School Directory
- Connect with other parents and get advice and support via New Moms Groups and lively discussion forum
- Learn to be a better parent through classes and big events like Preparing for Parenthood and Chicago Toddler Expo
But don't just take it from us. Watch the video above to find out why these four NPN members, Tiffany Norwood, Teresa Hjerpe, Marietta Coles and Sharmila Rao Thakker, love NPN and the community they've found via our network.
