How to catch a bubbleCatch a bubble
How many times have you caught a bubble in your hands without breaking it? We're guessing not that many. That's because dirt or oil on your hands break the surface tension holding the bubble together. Here's a cool experiment for you and your child to become master bubble catchers! 
 
What you need: 
  • Stretchy cotton gloves
  • Bottle of bubble solution with bubble wand
  • Friend
What you do:
  1. Put on the stretchy gloves.
  2. Blow some bubbles.
  3. Place your hand so that a bubble lands on it.
Make a ping-pong ball launcher
3-2-1 LAUNCH! Air takes up space, and it's everywhere around us. This experiment provides an illustration of Bernoulli’s Principle, which states that when air moves rapidly, the pressure is low. 
 
What you need:
  • Hair dryer
  • Ping-pong balls
  • 8 ½” x 11” construction paper
  • Tape
  • Large bowl
What you do:
  1. Cut two pieces of tape. 
  2. Roll the construction paper into a tube large enough for a ping-pong ball to fit through. Test the tube’s width by placing a ping-pong ball in the top and letting it fall through. 
  3. Secure the tube with tape.
  4. Place the bottom of the tube on top of a ball. Angle the top of the tube toward the bowl. Turn on the hair dyer. Let it blow across the top of the tube. The air pressure at the base of the tube is much higher, and so it pushes the ping-pong balls up the tube toward the lower pressure! 
Make your own waves
Beach season is just around the corner. Don’t wait to see the waves crashing at the beach, let’s make our own!
 
What you need:
  • Clear empty bottle with cap 
  • Vegetable oil
  • Water
  • Food coloring
What you do:
  1. Fill 2/3 of the bottle with water.
  2. Fill the rest of the bottle with vegetable oil.
  3. Add 5 drops of food coloring to the bottle.
  4. Screw on lid very tight. Hold your bottle on its side and slowly tilt it back and forth to mix.
  5. Allow the mixture to settle for 5 minutes.
  6. Hold the bottle on its side again and slowly tilt it back and forth.
You just made waves! Now add a small piece of plastic or foil to act like a boat in your wave bottle.
