WMG: Back to Work!: Managing Stress Upon Your Return from Maternity Leave @ Proskauer · Feb 25, 2014

Working Moms

Returning to work after maternity leave can be a stressful time for new moms and their families. As experienced moms will tell you, even if you feel like you are otherwise managing the challenges of being a new mom well, returning to work from maternity leave produces a special type of anxiety and stress unlike any other.  We have partnered with Beyond the Baby Blues to present a program designed for working moms who will soon return to work -- or who have recently returned to work -- after a leave of absence.  Nancy Segall, LCSW and Lead Clinician of Beyond the Baby Blues, will present suggestions regarding managing stress and self-care when returning to work. . . .

Beyond the Baby Blues (BBB) was formed by a community partnership between the Postpartum Depression Program at NorthShore University HealthSystems and a group of clinicians with long experience working with new mothers. BBB focuses on providing therapeutic support to postpartum mothers experiencing mood disorders through support groups.  Even when an individual's situation has not progressed to a mood disorder, BBB believes that, by identifying and discussing factors that may lead to such a disorder, we can help women increase their awareness of their own particular internal warning systems, allowing them to monitor their stress levels and preparing them to deal with what is ahead. BBB also believe that there is a societal component to the stress that mothers experience because of the lack of supports offered to women who need to balance multiple demands on their time and energy, such as family and work. Working together we hope to persuade policy makers of the importance of providing meaningful support to women when they most need it.

Thank you to our host, Proskauer Rose LLP, who have volunteered space and will provide beverages and dessert for this lunchtime meeting.  Please feel free to bring a brown-bag lunch to eat during the event.
