Find parent support, advice & community with NPN

Being a parent is hard. And, let's face it, being a parent in Chicago is even harder.

Luckily, Chicago is also home to gorgeous parks, fantastic schools, beautiful librar...

How to survive infertility, sanity intact

“She defied the odds” is usually associated with heroic tales. He beat cancer. She won the election. Her business thrived despite ________ (insert natural disaster here).

When you are infertile, beating the odds is the most deflating, depressing and difficult pill to swallow. I have now officially defied all odds, hooray! Just another badge to put on my IVF vest.

I am 29 years old and have been actively seeking infertility treatments for 1 year and 8 mon...

NPN Leadership Transition

One thing I learned when I had toddlers: transitions are never easy. Whether dropping off at preschool, leaving them with a sitter, or getting through the nightly routine of dinner, bath, books and bed - my kids seemed to resist every step of the way. Naturally, I picked up a few tricks along the way: give plenty of notice, offer clear choices, and set a time limit if necessary.

Now, I find myself trying to heed my own advice. After being a part of this valued and trusted organiz...

Overheard on the NPN forum: Dinner help!

Maybe you've made a New Year's resolution to cook more meals at home and rely less on the drive-thru, or maybe it's more of a a constant (and elusive) goal. Most of us would like to struggle less with dinner after a stressful day at work or at home, but how?

NPN members are talking about this issue over a couple different threads today. One member asks about the best meal-delivery service, and many people piped in with their favorites (who knew there were so many??). And another poses ...

The 5 most popular NPN blog posts of 2015

The most popular posts on the NPN blog this year had nothing to do with left sharks, pizza rats or Drake's "Hotline Bling." Instead, they revolved around classic issues parents have been dealing with for ages: babysitters, breastfeeding and generally just trying to make raising kids in Chicago a bit easier.

5. Confessions of a babysitter: A veteran babysitter reveals what really goes on while sitters are watching your kids.

4. Favorite ways to celebrate the holidays in Chicago: Man...
