Resolution: Mom hobby!

A few months ago one of my children noted that I don’t have any hobbies.

Clearly, he did understand. Considering I don’t have an abundance of this “spare time” he speaks of, I was left thinking hard on an answer. Tackle Family Dinner Time with Quick & Easy Recipes

Oh Sweet Dinnertime!

Is dinnertime at your house fun or frustrating?  Children under the age of 6 can be picky eaters and, according to experts, they don’t grow out of it until around 8 or 9 years old.  This is part of normal development but it can be very challenging.  Once you throw after school activities and homework into the mix, all you want is dinner to be quick, easy, delicious and less stressful.  For many families, the success of dinnertime can often determine the success of ...

Parents, Heal Thyself

I have seen remarkable progress in increasing overall functioning, in children with developmental differences ( anxiety, ADHD, sensory integration disorder, autism spectrum disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, etc.) by targeting and enhancing emotional regulation skills in their parents.  In other words, by assisting parents in learning how to decrease their reactivity to their children's ineffective behaviors, these behaviors are no longer reinforced and instead parents emphasize atte...

How to Raise a Baby Einstein

“How big is infinity?”

If you’re a parent to a young child, you’ve heard this question – and countless similar ones – many times. It’s the kind of question that, as parents, we get tired of hearing – but one that shows your child’s constant efforts to understand the world around them. This process is essential to developing your child’s thinking or cognitive skills.

Conveniently enough, these are the same skills measured on the intelligence tests that are so common in Chicago scho...
