Sugar Cookies with Vanilla Butter Cream Frosting for the Holidays

When I walked in the door one recent evening, my kids were ready for an activity! My son suggested we bake sugar cookies! With the holidays right around the corner, this is the perfect sweet treat! My family is a chocolate house; however, this sugar cookie recipe is sure to please even chocolate lovers.

My son used his warm hands to soften the butter (until he said the butter was too mushy and gross) while my daughter poured in the ingredients. They fought over the rolling pin, but the...

Keeping Kids Safe This Holiday Season

Kids In Danger (KID) is passionate about keeping children safe over the holidays. Recently we learned about a 13 month old girl named Ellie, who died when the changing table attachment on a play yard came down on the back of her next as she stood up. We have seen too many children, such as Ellie, killed by unsafe products used while traveling during the holiday season.

While traveling and celebrating over the holidays, keep in mind these safety tips:

Check products for recalls,...

Holiday Traditions

As parents, our first and most important job is providing our children with basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter and love.  But, I realized there is something else that is almost as important:  I am responsible for my daughter’s childhood experience – her childhood memories.  I want those memories to be unforgettable and in order to make that happen, I have to put the time and effort in now.

One of the easiest ways to make positive childhood memories is by creating holiday trad...

Surviving Pukefest

When you have six kids and a Daddy-o who is out of town, having a tummy bug go through the house is most uncivilized. Last week, I had five pukers in a 48-hour period, with a total of 19 pukes. Yes, I counted. Mostly I counted out of pride. Pride, you ask? Some people beam when their kids get a gold medal in a sport or win a spelling bee. My pride comes from knowing I had 19 rounds of vomit in our house, and every single kid hit a toilet or bucket every single time. No need to hold your ap...

Kids + Gift Giving

It is important to invovle your children in the gift GIVING part of the holiday season....not just the gift RECEIVING.  This year I plan to show my kids (6 year-old son, 4 year-old daughter) how important and enjoyable gift giving is by including them in the process.

One of my favorite childhood, holiday memories was the year my brother, sister and I decided to exchange gifts.  We put a lot of thought and time into our selections.  Each of us wrapped items we already had (a favorite bo...
