Trending: Why Kids (and Adults) Rewatch Favorites
Have you ever wondered why your kids request the same song, story, or movie if you’re at the screen time phase?
A story in the New York Times this past week points to the science behind this behavior, and specifically why kids rewatch movies like Moana.
The answer is pretty cool, and one that I need to file away when my toddler asks for the same Daniel Tiger episode yet again!
Though the plot to a Disney favorite like Moana never changes, kids change with each rewatch, refining their cognitive abilities and understanding.
Familiarity, comfort, and nostalgia all play an important role for adults returning to favorite shows too.
Adults can have a similar reflective experience, noting how things have changed since the first viewing—especially if you first encountered a movie or show as a child.
Experts say that rewatching content can actually be a boost to your mental health.
Rewatching what you love can help relieve some cognitive and emotional stress, assist with emotional regulation, and help you avoid the fatigue of making yet another decision.
So, enjoy that encore showing of your family favorite at your next movie night or the sitcom you keep coming back to.
It might actually be good for you!
