Trending: Parents Who Get Me Time Could Be Healthier
How much personal time do you get, parents?
A lot of parents, maybe especially mothers, have a difficult time carving out "me" time.
One researcher, who asked 318 U.S. parents with kids under 18 to log free time and their observations over eight days, offers the takeaway that more personal time equates to better well-being.
Parents surveyed who were able to manage some alone time (no work, no housework, and no caregiving but time for rest and hobbies) reported better days overall. Think more positive feelings, fewer negative emotions, and a better ability to respond to stress.
This study doesn't prove outright that personal time makes people happier, but it's not hard to imagine the restorative power of dedicated solo time for any parent.
