Trying to chose a language for your child, interested in Chinese, but just not sure if its doable? Intimidated on how to get started?
RSVP below for a fantastic FREE play date for the whole family to enjoy! Thank you to Lango and the Daystar Center for sponsoring this great event! Come join us for a friendly 3 part discussion:
*** 1st: A formal introduction
Whats the difference between Mandarin, Cantonese and Chinese? Who speaks what and why.
Whats the difference between Traditional and Simplified Characters and what the heck is pin yin?
We will also do a basic primer on the phonetic differences, tones and grammar.
*** 2nd: How can I possibly help my child if I can't speak a word of Chinese?
Here we will cover the basics of parent participation, how you can help, and why contrary to popular belief, your "bad" pronunciation will do no harm!
*** 3rd: We will talk briefly about what to expect at each age and stage of learning. What you should expect and how you can gauge progress. We will also introduce a few additional resources for extra at-home practice.
While parents attend the workshop, children are invited to participate in a Chinese play class led by one of Lango's own Chinese teachers. Open to children aged 2-10. "I'm not afraid of Chinese" will be presented by Megan Marshall, owner/director of Lango of Chicago, and life-long Chinese student and sinophile.
